When it comes to business, no one is more industrious or creative than the American business person. We pioneer financial practices and explore creative solutions to problems and limitations. So now that we are in the midst of a real estate slump that can partially be blamed on our industrious ways, the only way to curb its negative effects is with creative solutions that bring business back to the real estate market.

Studies have shown that forty percent of people believe homes are unaffordable. Since the goal of most professionals is to own property and build personal wealth, it’s up to the federal government and private industry to create ways to make housing more affordable.

The FHA has offered its solution in the form of $300 million dollars to assist distressed homeowners and the U.S. federal government has pledged even more. But what about private industry, what can they offer to move things along and create better conditions in the real estate market?

The recent advent of employee benefits the last twenty years has revolutionized employment and cultivated a sense of corporate responsibility amongst employers. Employee benefits like healthcare, company cars, company cell phones, investment packages and retirement plans has led to higher quality employees that stay with their companies longer.

The most recent trend in employee benefits has been employee assisted housing. This benefit allows employees to create an investment plan with their employers that make their real estate investments more affordable. This may seem like a one-sided deal, but there are plenty of benefits for the employer as well.

First of all, the employer will have a hand in picking out the location for their employee. This mutually chosen area will likely be close to their place of employment making commutes easier and more affordable. This will not only optimize efficiency but also improves the employee’s quality of life making it more likely they will become long term employees.
